New Designers

Well...I have had a really exciting week at New Designers. I have met so many lovely people, and saw lots of gorgeous textiles, jewellery and ceramics which were really inspiring! I also had some fantastic news as I won the Selvedge prize for excellence in textiles, which I am ridiculously excited about! I love Selvedge and feel so honoured that my work has been recognised by the editor. Above I’ve posted a picture of my award and a few images of my stand at New Designers.

Paris

A few snaps from our trip to Paris. My class was visiting Premiere Vision but these are from our adventures wandering around, drinking coffee, finding bizarre shop windows and spending a silly amount of Euros on Ribbon and Lace!

Fronts

Fronts and all the bits and pieces from the first term ready to be marked!

Knits...

A selection of samples from the first term of third year, mostly 10gg Dubied.

Sketchbook

Sketchbook work… researching vintage knitting patterns and shaping, print development, illustrations and gaining inspiration from found objects…

Colour

These images are the development of my chosen yarns and colour palette for the first term of my final year project. I combined trend research colour ways for A/W 11/12 with colours from vintage objects, the title I was working around at this stage was… ‘Vintage Salvage.’

Marble

This is my final second year project and my first self directed project. I based the design work on the marbling inside my collection of Vintage poetry books…I used pleating and striping to create an interpretation of the edge of the marbled pages and designed a few variations of print.

Scarves

Another second year project…

A few pages of development in my sketchbook and some of my knit samples…this was a collection to be used for scarves, lots of ruffles, petal details, and laser cut fabric.

Ikebana

A few images from a second year project that was inspired by Ikebana, a Japanese flower arranging art form which focuses on emphasising the stem and leaves of the plant rather than the flowers. I was aiming to produce some knit fabrics with print detailing; suitable for use in interiors …I continued the theme by including some lotus flower origami embellishments made from squares of Fair Isle knitting.
